Who has the advantage between the Red Sox and the Rockies?

Will the Rockies be wide-eyed in Fenway or will Manny have trouble with the extra acreage in Denver? Will the extra rest break the Rockies streak or will the Red Sox fold in the snow?
This will probably be a cold series and cold series favor pitching. The Rox should know Beckett and Schilling, but Wakefield and Matsuzaka should be totally new. Francis, Jimenez, Morales and Corpas are all totally new to the Red Sox, even Fogg has minimal exposure.

Boston Red Sox Team: One of the Top choices of Fans when it comes to Baseball Merchandise

Friday, August 14th, 2009
Karunakar asked:

Boston Red Sox fans no doubt still have some kind of euphoric hangover from their recent World Series win, even though it was almost two year ago. The Boston Red Sox Team won the 2007 World Series, the 103rd World Series played in Major League Baseball. A talented Boston Red Sox Team beat out the National League champion’s, the Colorado Rockies, who were making their first World Series appearance winning the championship in four games.

Fans of the team were ecstatic, as the Red Sox took their second World Series in only four seasons - the seventh overall for a team that has been at a top level for such a long time. That is probably why, according to diehardfans.com, one of the leading online retailers of sports related merchandise, Boston Red Sox Merchandise are some of the fastest moving items in their store, that and a strong tradition of winning and playing hard that has endeared them to their legion of fans.

Boston Red Sox Team History

The Boston Red Sox team history is quite a long and colorful one. The Red Sox have been with the league since 1901, probably longer than any living fan today. For the majority of that time, from 1912 actually, they called Fenway Park their home stadium. The Bosox, as their fans call them, were one of the American League’s eight charter franchises.

While with the American league, they were THE team to beat, taking the first World Series in 1903 against the Pittsburgh Pirates. They again took four more World Series wins by 1918, raising their total to five. But then came the longest championship drought in league history – no championships for the Bosox from then on until they finally won another one in 2004, and then again in 2007.
___________________________________________________________________
Part of the reason they were unable to secure a championship during those times was the move of the Red Sox owner to move who could be the most famous baseball player of them all – **** Ruth. On December 26, 1919, the Boston Red Sox team sent **** Ruth (a six season veteran then) to the New York Yankees. As we all know, the Yankees soared while the Red Sox languished during those years. Thankfully for the fans, the Red Sox recaptured their mojo to be one of the best teams of the current decade.

Boston Red Sox Memorabilia

Aside from the history of winning and the fanatical fans, what makes Boston Red Sox Memorabilia so compelling to the fans. A quick peek at what types of memorabilia the site has to offer quickly gives an answer.

The page that holds the Boston Red Sox Gifts is a veritable treasure trove of valuable minted coins and photo mints of your favorite Red Sox milestones and players – the type fans will be inclined to display and be proud of. Here you will find things such as a Red Sox 24kt Gold & Infield Dirt 3 Coin Set that has three minted coins honouring the team and the field they’ve played in for decades. Beside it you may find something like a Manny Ramirez 24kt Gold Coin Photo Mint that has commemorative team coins, sometimes in gold, and sometimes in silver, all or most are quite valuable, and will surely be more valuable as time passes.

Boston Red Sox memorabilia on this site is not just all about cards, or little doohickeys like other stores, these items are premium items that serious collectors seek. Serious collectors know that toys and trinkets lose their value quickly, but a good piece of memorabilia can last several lifetimes, and may even be a good family heirloom one day.

Boston Red Sox Jerseys

Another one of the bestsellers on the site are Boston Red Sox Jerseys. Little wonder they’re so popular as the Boston Red Sox command a pretty large fan base. And with fan friendly players such as Manny Ramirez, Jason Varitek, Jon Lester, Daisuke Matsuzaka, and David Ortiz, there’s no wonder Boston Red Sox jerseys rocketed to the top of their list.

The site offers a fine selection of replica jerseys that fit adults, teens, and even infants – presumably for the Boston Red Sox-crazy family – and jerseys for men and women. The jerseys come in the home whites and alternate reds. There is also one thing that is sure to attract every Boston Red Sox fan, not to mention any other baseball fan out there – a replica throwback jersey of the great **** Ruth.

I think it’s all because of his presential bid & for getting votes for himself & I don’t think he would be pulling for the Red Sox if he weren’t looking for publicity & votes. Thoughts?

What did Red Sox fans do during the home run derby last night?

Wednesday, August 12th, 2009
Some Imagination asked:

Everyone knows that Red Sox fans are not baseball fans, they are Red Sox fans. They don’t watch anything that doesn’t involve the Red Sox.

So during the Home Run Derby what did you do? Did you put on your pink hat and watch a replay of the ‘04 Series? Too bad, you missed your boy Ortiz getting roundly booed by Yankee Stadium fans for trying to steal the spotlight from Josh Hamilton.

Baseball betting: did you bet the Reds on their road trip?

Tuesday, August 11th, 2009
Bob Acton asked:

There has to be at least one gambling fan of the Cincinnati Reds in America who woke up May 31st after the Reds had lost their first two games of the road trip to the Cubbies and decided the Reds would win that day!

John Q Public then probably decided to take the Big Red Machine in Texas as they played the Astros and by the time they left the Lone Star state had compiled a nice big bankroll as Cinci swept Houston. Next stop was the “Show Me” state of Missouri and could Reds bettor have the guts to play them against the vaunted Cardinals? Why not as Pujols is on the shelf, and the Reds are pounding the ball!

If Reds fan backed them all the way through Houston and St. Louis he is one happy camper today as they have reeled off 7 in a row and head home to Ohio, to face Chicago. Tonight I would be betting with the whole bankroll as the Reds look like a mortal lock.

The Reds are averaging 7.4 runs while batting .303 with 13 home runs during their winning streak, and have not won eight consecutive games since winning 10 straight from June 21-July 1, 1999.

Ken Griffey Jr. did not play Wednesday because of a tight left quadriceps muscle, but Reds manager Jerry Narron expects him back in the lineup for Thursday’s contest.

Griffey is batting .471 (16-for-34) with four home runs and eight RBIs during an eight-game hitting streak. Adam Dunn is 11-for-29 (.379) with five home runs in eight games against the Cubs this season, and is 10-for-25 (.400) with six homers and 12 RBIs in his career against Thursday’s Cubs starter, Glendon Rusch.

As I mentioned in a previous article, the Boston Red Sox must be kicking themselves for trading Bronson Arroyo to the Reds for Willy Mo Pena as the right hander has been on fire all year with his arm and his bat!

Arroyo (7-2, 2.40) has homered off Rusch twice this season, in an 8-6 win over the Cubs on April 5 at Cincinnati and again in a 9-2 victory at Wrigley Field on April 11.

Arroyo went 3-for-3 with a career-high four RBIs, while allowing two unearned runs and eight hits in six innings in a 7-5 win over Houston on Saturday.

The right-hander has allowed two or fewer runs in seven of his 12 starts, and the Reds are 9-3 when he takes the mound.

Arroyo is 2-0 with a 1.98 ERA in two starts against Chicago this season, both of them wins over Rusch.

The Reds are doing this as well without any offensive contribution from catcher Jason LaRue who is 1-30 in the month of June.

How come nobody has been complaining about the Red Sox?

Sunday, August 9th, 2009
j.soto416 asked:

Everbody always talk about the yankees and how they always spend money and how money does’nt buy a ring. Well, how come i don’t hear anyone complaining about how the Red Sox have been throwing their money around this offseason ? The Red Sox look good on paper but they will find out just like the yankees that money does not buy a ring. Anything can happen over 162 games afterall who thought the tigers would be in the world series ?. I’m a yankee fan but if Santana and Liriano stay healthy then the twins should be the favorite to win it all.
LOL,Bill Shitzer are you cyber stalking me ? It seems like everywhere I go your there too with something negative to say.

A Look at the Upcoming 2008 MLB Season

Sunday, August 9th, 2009
Jason Oconnor asked:

The 2008 major league baseball season is quickly coming up. Which teams really have a shot at making it? Which teams are the ones to watch for? Where there be any repeats? That is exactly what we are about to find out.

We are going to discuss several different teams and what their chances are for reaching this years World Series. Will the Cubs make it? Will we see the Red Sox vying for their third Championship? Will we see an appearance by the Mets, Rockies, or Yankees? Let’s have a look.

Boston Red Sox

Still on a high from last years World Series win, can they do it again? It depends on who you ask. Of course, Red Sox fans are biased; they will always choose their favorite team to win. However, what you really need to look at are the facts. Yes, this is the Red Sox’s first Series win in eighty plus years, but can they do it again? It really depends on the Roster. Several of the Sox’s major players were beginning to have difficulties towards the end of the season.

If you look at age, when compared to other teams in the major leagues, many would say that the Sox have no chance in seeing the World Series this year, unless they make some definite roster changes. Some older players like Wakefield and Schilling are getting slack because of their age. The best the Sox can hope for this coming season is some roster changes and some new blood to take their playing level higher. Of course Mike Lowell is getting on in years, he was red-hot right through the World Series. And they have some new blood to work with in Elsbury and Pedroia.

Chicago Cubs

The Chicago Cubs have been borderline many times, always within reach but never getting there. Not in the last nearly one hundred years. Their die hard fans are always hopeful, they are the brunt of jokes, but if the Cubs keep playing like they have been in the last few seasons, we may see their unlucky streak broken yet.

Do not get me wrong, I am not now, nor have I ever been a Chicago Cubs fan. However, it is not as if they have had a terrible team. In most all occasions, when matching the St. Louis Cardinals the Cubs have won. The team is solid and plays well together, but for one reason or another tend to choke when their moment of glory arises.

If they could keep it together, the Chicago Cubs are definite contenders for the 2008 World Series.

New York Yankees

Fresh off their loss of Manager and four time World Series champion Joe Torre, the New York Yankees have some bouncing back to do. A few roster changes and the organization might see better results. Of course, it is going to be difficult to replace a winning manager. However, it is true that there has not been a series championship in the last seven years.

What I tend to see with the New York Yankees is that, yes, they are bringing in young talent, but doing so at a big price. These talents they hire for millions still make their millions regardless of whether or not they bring their A game to the field. The Yankees have a lot of high paid players, but these high paid players are not providing results. If the Yankees want to see another world series win, they are going to have to step up their game, their roster, and get a manager with the right attitude to replace Joe Torre.

The Colorado Rockies

The Rockies were on top of their game last season, giving the Red Sox a real run for their money in the World Series. Could they do it again with a winning appearance this time? Well, to be perfectly honest, this was their first World Series appearance and it was on pure luck in the eyes of many people. Even the players, when asked, could not explain how they did it. This tells us that there needs to be some real stepping up in the game before they can see a World Series win.
